Too Many Books

I buy books.

I don't mean one or two a month, or textbooks when I need them, or as gifts for other people. I mean, I go into a Barnes and Noble, and I blow $200, $300 at a time on books I'm barely interested in and then never read. Why? I don't know. I don't care. I just know that it's a bad, bad habit.

I have decided to break this habit.

How? By setting for myself a task intersting and challenging enough to distract me enough from the lure of shiny new hardcovers, glistening under the florescent lamps, embossed with critic's quotes and... Maybe this won't be so easy.

However, I have set myself a TASK, complete with RULES.

The TASK: To read every book I own. Yes, Every Last One.

The RULES: I must finish at least ONE book every week. I may read more than one book at a time, but not more than four at a time. I cannot purchase any new books until I have finished all the books I already own. If someone tells me that I have to read this book, it's the best thing ever, here borrow my copy, I must finish that book within twent-one days of recieving it. I must keep a list of all the books I read. Before starting I must make a list of all the books I own, I must then devide them into books I have read and books I have not read. I must continually update both lists, switching unread books to the read list as I finish them. I must comment on Every Book I Have Read before starting with new books. I must comment on every book I finish as soon as I have finished it. I cannot review any books; the comments must be after the fashion of a discussion among friends, an opinion on a character, a philosophical or moral gripe, an "I would have done it this way" comment, but never, never a review.

To the book cave!
